Material Things | Slender Threads at Artworks

Artworks Loveland is proud to feature Material Things | Slender Threads new work

by Sally Mankus.

Material Things | Slender Threads explores the deterioration of forgotten objects while

approaching material in an abstract painterly way. Working intuitively with these

discarded heirlooms, Sally Mankus discovers a new visual language that reaches

beyond her familial story. This body of work sparks conversation and contemplation

over what these pieces once were and what they have become.

Sally is a mixed media artist and photographer based in Windsor, Colorado. She

received her B.A. degree from Baylor University in Waco Texas, and a B.S. from the

University of Southern Colorado Pueblo, Colorado. She Attended the University of

Colorado at Colorado Springs from 1987-89 where her focus was painting and

drawing.

Mankus was awarded a Florida Individual Artist Fellowship in 1994. She has been

included in newspaper articles, catalogues, and publications including New American

Paintings , The Open Studio Press, June 1998 and July 2001. Mankus’ work is in the

collections of the New Orleans Museum of Art, the University of Colorado at Colorado

Springs, and numerous private collections.

Mankus traveled widely while growing up, living in places across the US and

internationally. She lived in France, California, Hawaii, Texas, Colorado and Florida. In

2017, she returned to Colorado after many years in Florida. Her travels continue.
